Why a drain clogs twice, and how we clear it once
A cable auger opens a narrow channel through hair, soap, grease or roots and leaves the rest clinging to the inside of the pipe. Water runs again for a while, then the channel closes up. So we begin with a camera and look at the cause on a screen before choosing a tool. Soft stoppages get a sectional cable. Grease, hard water scale and roots get the hydro jetter. A cracked or sagging pipe gets a repair, because no amount of cleaning mends a broken pipe.
The jetter drives water through a nozzle at very high pressure, scrubbing the full circle of the pipe, cutting roots back at the joints and carrying the debris down to the main. It is safe for copper, PVC, ABS and cast iron that is still in good shape, and a jetted line stays open far longer than one that only saw a cable. Costa Mesa adds its own complication: many houses from the 1950s to the 1970s still drain through cast iron or clay laterals, and on older Eastside blocks mature street trees send roots into those joints. We study the pipe on camera before deciding how hard it can be jetted.
The sewer main in the street belongs to the Costa Mesa Sanitary District. The lateral that carries waste from your house out to that main belongs to you, the property owner, and that pipe is the part we clean, inspect and repair. Inside the house we clear every drain: kitchen and bathroom sinks, tubs and showers, the laundry standpipe and floor drains. A second camera pass at the end puts the clean pipe next to the footage of the blockage.

- 24-hour emergency response when sewage backs up

When a drain is telling you something
- More than one drain is slow at the same time
- A toilet gurgles when the shower or a sink drains
- The same sink clogs again a few weeks after clearing
- A sewer smell indoors, or around the cleanout outside
- Gray water rises in the tub when the washer pumps out
- Big trees over the lateral and a history of backups
Camera first
The camera travels down the line so you can watch the blockage, and the pipe around it, on a screen.
The right tool for the cause
Hair and soft clogs come out with a cable. Grease, scale and roots are a job for the jetter.
A second look
The camera goes back in to prove the pipe is clean from wall to wall, and not only open in the middle.
Keeping it open
You leave with simple habits that keep the line clear and, for a restaurant kitchen or a lateral near big trees, a suggested schedule for routine jetting.
What sets our drain work apart in Costa Mesa
We are based in Costa Mesa and clear drains across Orange County. A drain cleared halfway comes back as a second backup, so these four habits are part of every job.
Video at the start and the finish
The footage of the clog and of the clean pipe is shown to you, so the result is something you have seen, not something you take on trust.
Jetting the full pipe wall
Water at high pressure strips grease, scale and roots from the whole inside of the pipe instead of punching one hole through them.
Plain water, no caustic chemicals
The jetter uses water alone, and an enzyme follow-up takes the place of store-bought drain openers that eat at old cast iron.
A broken pipe, explained first
When the camera shows a cracked or sagging section behind the repeat clogs, you hear it from us before paying for another cleaning.
What changes the cost of drain cleaning
Access comes first. A trap under a sink, or a cleanout beside the house, is simple to get at. A lateral without a cleanout has to be reached through a toilet flange or a vent on the roof, and that takes more setup. In condos and apartments that share a drain stack, the stoppage may sit in a pipe that serves several units, which can mean more work to reach it.
Then the pipe and the method. Clearing one fixture with a cable is a smaller job than jetting a whole lateral, and an old cast iron or clay line packed with roots needs a camera inspection first. Finding the trouble spot on a long or deep line can take time as well. If the camera shows a broken section, the repair is its own job, and a sewer lateral repair needs a City of Costa Mesa permit.
Once we have seen inside the line, you get the price in writing and approve it before any work begins.

Answers about drains
Hydro jetting is safe on a pipe that still has its full wall. What we will not do is jet a line that is already coming apart, so the camera goes in before the water, and thin cast iron or a separated clay joint is marked for repair instead.
Snaking pushes a cutting head through the stoppage and gets water moving. Jetting scours the pipe from one end to the other. A line that was only snaked often clogs again in the same spot; a jetted line usually stays clear far longer.
We jet copper, PVC, ABS and cast iron as a matter of routine when the pipe was installed correctly and is still sound. Clay laterals under older Costa Mesa homes get a camera inspection and a gentler setting, or a repair if the joints have failed.
No two drain jobs cost the same. It turns on which line is blocked, how hard it is to get into, whether jetting is needed and how long it takes to find the problem. Once the camera has been in, you receive one written price to accept or decline before anything starts.
A typical house never needs jetting on a calendar. A restaurant kitchen, or a home on an older Eastside block with big street trees above the lateral, is different, and one or two planned jetting visits a year keep roots and grease from building back up.
