Emergency Plumbing

A supply line splits, a toilet floods the bathroom, or every tap in the house goes dry. Call us at any hour: we are based in Costa Mesa, our 24-hour emergency response reaches all of Orange County, and nights, weekends and holidays are no exception.

What happens when you call at night

A plumbing failure keeps its own hours, so our phone does too. A person answers at any time of day or night, writes down your address, and hands the call to the nearest of our 10 locations in the county. The plumber arrives with fittings, valves and the tools to start work on the spot.

The calls that come in after dark look like the ones we take at lunchtime: a cracked supply line under a sink, a slab leak warming a patch of hallway floor, sewage rising in a tub because the main line is blocked, a water heater leaking from the tank, a smell of gas, or no pressure anywhere. Our first job is to stop the water or the gas. Then we show you what broke, write down a price for the repair, and start only when you agree to it.

Costa Mesa's housing explains a lot of these calls. About 68 percent of the city's homes were built before 1980, and many houses from the 1950s to the 1970s sit on concrete slabs, so a leak under the floor is one of the emergencies we see most here. In condos, townhomes and apartments, several units can share one drain stack, and a backup in one home can show up in a neighbor's tub as well. A lot of repairs are done in a single visit. When a temporary repair is the right answer for tonight, we tell you so and price the permanent work as a separate job.

One call, any hour

A person answers, confirms the address and what is going on, and sends a plumber from our nearest location.

Water off, damage contained

The plumber closes the right valve, keeps the water from spreading, and follows the leak back to where it starts.

A written price before the repair

You read the full price on paper and make your decision with no meter running, at 2 a.m. or at 2 p.m.

Repaired, tested and left clean

When the repair is in, we turn the water back on, watch each new joint for drips, and leave the floor dry and swept.

Why Costa Mesa calls us when water is on the floor

We are based in Costa Mesa and take emergency calls across Orange County. When something has failed in the middle of the night, these three things count most.

24-hour emergency response

A person answers at every hour of every day, and the plumber who comes is sent from our location nearest to you.

Parts carried on the truck

The truck holds the usual fittings in copper, PEX and PVC, plus shutoff valves, supply hoses and wax rings, so many night repairs are finished with what is already on board.

Price agreed before work

You see the price in writing and say yes before anything is cut or replaced, and it stays the same if the job takes longer than planned.

What decides the cost of an emergency repair

Where the failure sits matters most. A dripping valve under a sink is in plain view. A pipe inside a finished wall or under a concrete slab, which is common in Costa Mesa homes from the 1950s to the 1970s, can take drywall or concrete work to reach, and pinpointing it adds time before the repair itself starts.

The pipe counts too. Galvanized steel in the oldest houses may need a longer run replaced than copper or PEX would, and a backup caused by roots in a cast iron or clay lateral calls for different equipment than one clogged toilet. Some jobs, such as a water heater replacement or a gas line repair, also need a City of Costa Mesa permit.

Day or night, you get one written price for the whole job, and the work starts only after you accept it.

Straight answers

Holidays included, the emergency line is open all 365 days of the year, and a person picks up rather than a recording that promises a callback.

When a plumber can reach you depends on your address and on how many calls are open at that hour. We tell you what to expect while you are still on the phone, and the plumber comes from our nearest location.

Nights and weekends follow the daytime rule. You see the repair price in writing and approve it first, and the clock is never what sets the bill.

While you wait, shut the water off at the main valve. On many Costa Mesa houses it sits near a hose bib on the front wall or in the garage, and there is often a second valve in the meter box at the curb. If you smell gas, get everyone outside, call SoCalGas from there, and then call us.

Yes. A restaurant on Harbor Boulevard, an office in South Coast Metro or an apartment building with a shared drain stack gets the same 24-hour emergency response as a house.

Questions

Emergency Plumbing: what people ask us

How soon can a plumber get to my house?
That depends on where you live and how busy the night is. A person answers around the clock, on weekends and holidays too, tells you honestly what to expect, and sends a plumber from whichever location of ours is closest.
What should I do until the plumber arrives?
If the leak is at one fixture, turn the small valve under it. If you cannot find the source, close the main shutoff, which on many Costa Mesa houses sits in the garage or beside the hose bib on the front wall. On the Westside and in Mesa del Mar, salt air can leave an exposed valve stiff with corrosion, so turn it firmly but do not force it until it snaps. If there is a smell of gas, get out first and phone SoCalGas once you are outside.
Will a night or holiday call cost more?
At 3 a.m. the rule is the same as at noon: one written price, accepted by you before the plumber starts. You see it before a wall or floor is opened, and nothing is billed by the clock.
Do you stand behind the repair?
Yes, with a written workmanship warranty on repairs and installations. The work is done under California license #1131308 (CSLB, classification C-36 Plumbing), and a contractor bond is on file with the CSLB.
